At Northbridge, we are excited to celebrate our Resident Care Directors by getting to know them a little bit better as part of our Meet our Caregiver series! Resident Care Directors are responsible for overseeing the care needs of all the residents at our communities. They are some of the most caring, compassionate and hard working people you will ever meet and we are lucky that they share their talents with Northbridge!

Resident Care Director: Heather Steadman
Community: The Mariner Marblehead

1. What made you decide to pursue a career in healthcare?
   When I was a little girl my mom would bring me to work with her (she worked as a CNA) and I would spend my weekends hanging out with all my ‘new’ nanas and papas.
2. What first interested you about working in senior living?
   Just my memories as a kid going to work with my mom, I saw she made a difference, and I wanted to do the same.
3. What was your first job or experience working in senior living?
   My first job was a CNA when I was 16, I worked in an Alzheimer’s Unit.
4. What is your favorite part about working in senior living?
   This is going to sound morbid, but the end of life has always been my favorite part of this career.  To sit with a resident at the end of their life, to provide comfort, compassion and dignity is a really beautiful thing.
5. What is one piece of advice you would give to young nurses just entering the healthcare field?
   To always remember what made you start, this job/field can be tough and it’s really easy to forget why you started, if you keep why you started in the front of your mind, you will forever love what you do.
6. What keeps you invested in the field of senior living?
   Definitely my residents and their families.
