How long have you been working in Senior Living and what first made you interested in the field?

I’ve been working in Senior Living for three years. I originally joined as a weekend concierge, thinking it would simply be a part-time job. Very quickly, though, I found myself enjoying the connections I made with residents and their families at the front desk. Moving into the Engagement Department allowed me to see aging from a new, positive perspective, one filled with purpose, joy, and possibility. That experience inspired me to continue building my career with Northbridge.

What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?

My favorite part is that every day is different. I love encouraging residents to try new activities, especially those they may feel hesitant about, and watching their confidence grow. Helping someone reconnect with a hobby or passion they thought they had lost is incredibly meaningful. It’s a privilege to help make those moments possible.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Resident Engagement Director?

Yes, it’s fun role, but there’s also a great deal of thought, planning, and coordination involved in creating meaningful and enjoyable experiences for residents. Behind every engaging program is a lot of intention and effort.

What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?

Approach the work with the right attitude and a genuine love for working with seniors. Treat everyone in the community with kindness. Be open to sharing who you are, your stories, your interests, even your vulnerabilities, because residents appreciate authenticity. Build real relationships, stay flexible, and embrace the learning that comes with this work.

What is the best part about working at Stone Hill or at Northbridge?

The residents are truly remarkable people with rich histories and unique perspectives. Every day offers something different, and I feel like the work I do genuinely makes a difference. I learn from the residents constantly, and hearing their thoughts on life, relationships, and the world often helps me see things in new ways.

What is your favorite way to connect with residents?

Lately, I’ve really enjoyed our poetry group. Our conversations often lead to thoughtful discussions about big themes, morality, human nature, love, and loss, and the residents bring such depth to the poems we read. I didn’t fully appreciate poetry in school, but exploring it with the residents has given me a whole new appreciation for it.
