What first made you interested in working in Senior Living?

Prior to working in senior living I was a companion to an elderly woman.  We had a great connection and formed a special bond. I have always enjoyed being around the older population and when I found out about an activity assistant position at The Landing, I went for it!

How long have you been working in Senior Living and what was your first job in this field?

I have been in senior living for seven years and I started out as an activity assistant.

What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?

My favorite part about working in senior living is seeing the residents each day. They are a wonderful group of people.  They are like a second family to me.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Resident Engagement Director?

Being a Resident Engagement Director is a rewarding position.  Planning out activities that the residents look forward to participating in and like doing, is what matters the most.  

What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?

If a person wishes to start a career in senior living, I would say it’s important to be kind ,compassionate and patient.

What keeps you invested in the field?

The residents. They are such a strong group of people that I admire and respect and I have the privilege of working with each day.

What is your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part of my job is putting together activities the residents will partake in and that I can do with them.  It’s always a joy to see smiles on their faces after an activity we did together.

What is the best part about working at The Landing at Cape Elizabeth or at Northbridge?

The best part about working at The Landing at Cape Elizabeth are the residents and staff.  We have a wonderful community, with lovely residents and a hardworking staff.

What is your favorite program to do with the residents?

One of my favorite programs to do with the residents is leading a seated exercise class.  I have fun with it and I think they do too!
