How long have you been working in Senior Living and what first made you interested in the field?
I have worked with seniors to some degree for over 30 years. As a fitness instructor and personal trainer, I had special senior-level classes and worked closely with the Silver Sneakers program. Prior to working at Granite Hill Estates, I worked as a case manager for low-income seniors providing resources, in-home care and family education.
What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
In my community, we have a variety of care levels with the majority being independent living residents but we also offer assisted living and memory care. I love having this variety in my day and having to switch gears when developing activities for everyone.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Resident Engagement Director?
I wish everyone knew how many hats you wear and that it is like being a cruise director on a luxury cruise line.
What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
Make sure you are comfortable being in charge, having a voice, and really enjoy working with people, especially seniors!
What is the best part about working at Granite Hill Estates or at Northbridge?
There are several “best parts”. My director team, we have so much fun together and work well with each other. My staff, they really work hard and create a positive vibe for all of our residents. The residents, we have the best here at Granite Hill Estates!
What is your favorite way to connect with residents?
Any large function that we have; holiday parties, BBQs, outdoor functions, we all work together and both staff and residents have a fabulous time! It’s very rewarding.
