How long have you been working in Senior Living and what first made you interested in the field?
For the last 10 years, I have been working in Senior Living, but my passion for caring for others started much earlier. I truly enjoy listening to residents stories, learning from their wisdom, and creating moments that bring comfort, dignity, and joy to their lives. Working in Senior Living has allowed me to combine my healthcare background with my passion for building meaningful relationships and creating a strong sense of community.
What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
My favorite part about working in senior living is the relationships I build with the residents and their families. Every day is different, and it is incredibly rewarding to help create a community where residents feel valued, supported, and truly at home.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being an Avita Program Director?
One thing I wish everyone knew about being an Avita Program Director is how much heart goes into creating Peacock Moments for our residents every day. It is much more than planning programs, it is about creating meaningful experiences that make residents feel beautiful, valued, confident, joyful, and connected. Sometimes the smallest moments can have the biggest impact, and being able to help create those special memories for residents and families is the most rewarding part of what I do.
What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
My advice to someone thinking about starting a career in senior living would be to lead with compassion and an open heart. This field is about so much more than caregiving, it is about building relationships, creating trust, and making a difference in someone’s everyday life. If you have patience, kindness, and a passion for helping others, Senior Living can become an incredibly rewarding career.
What is the best part about working at Skybrooke at Simsbury or at Northbridge?
The best part about working at Skybrooke at Simsbury and being part of Northbridge Companies is the strong sense of community and support. Everyone works together with the same goal, creating meaningful experiences and Peacock Moments for our residents and families. It truly feels like a team that cares not only about the residents, but also about each other. I also love that creativity, and new ideas are encouraged, allowing us to make every day special for the people we serve.
What is one thing you would tell families moving their loved one into memory care to make the transition easier?
One thing I would tell families moving their loved one into our Avita memory care neighborhood is to give themselves grace and trust the process. Transitions can feel emotional and overwhelming, but it is important to remember that they are not alone. Our team is there to support not only the resident, but the entire family. Over time, many families find comfort in seeing their loved one build new connections, routines, and moments of joy within the community.
