What first made you interested in working in Senior Living?
It is about giving and being a part of the community and being in close contact with the community you serve and being a part of their needs everyday.
How long have you been working in Senior Living and what was your first job in this field?
I worked 14 years in the maintenance field with a community for people with special needs and helping them maintain housing. That taught me how to work with senior living. I feel that I am still part of a community that needs housing support and maintaining the facility.
What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
The greeting when you walk in, they seem to remember your name and the last promise that you made them when you left the day before.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Maintenance Director?
They are the center of the community daily routine and information flow.
What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
You have to be for the people. Everything that you do is for the community, and that is what makes them always appreciate you.
What keeps you invested in the field?
Knowing daily that it brings people joy to bring people the service. It is all about having passion for your job.
What is your favorite part about your job?
The team and the effort that it takes to accomplish every day. My favorite part is showing up and enjoying it and every day is a new day.
What is the best part about working at The Landing at Cape Elizabeth or at Northbridge?
The best part of working at the Landing at Cape Elizabeth is the welcoming environment, it makes my job easy, it is like I am home with the people that I know.
What is one thing you want families to know as they’re moving their loved one in?
The move in process is my favorite part of the job. They want all their pictures hung and the cable works on the first day that they move in and it is playing when they walk in. It is a relief knowing that the cable is fully functioning because a lot of them are worried about how long that will take.
