Meet a few of our amazing and dedicated Avita Directors!

Avita Director: Jillian Spinale
Community: Stafford Hill

1. What first made you interested in working in Senior Living?
   Since a very young age I would help my grandmother volunteer at skilled nursing facilities with bingo and other programs and when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s I became a caregiver for her through the end of her life and saw how much of a difference caregivers made in her life.
2. How long have you been working in Senior Living and what was your first job in this field?
   I have been working in senior living for almost 20 years. My first job was as a Memory Care Director in a skilled nursing facility.
3. What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
   The difference we make as caregivers, the ability to help create a good day for the ones who are living in our communities.
4. What is one thing you wish everyone new about being a Avita Director?
   The majority of the time my job is not a sad job. When someone hears I work with residents living with memory loss they automatically think that it is all sad. There are more moments of joy and laughter and creating moments of connection, it is not sad all the time.  It is a sad disease, but the residents we work with are filled with so much joy and life.
5. What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
   If you feel like this is a population you should be working with dive right in. We can teach you all the ins and outs of what to do. Don’t let inexperience stop you. It is a very rewarding career choice.
6. What keeps you invested in the field?
   It is ever changing and no two days are the same.
7. What is your favorite part about your job?
   Creating good days and moments for our residents.
8. What is the best part about working at Stafford Hill or at Northbridge?
   The sense of community and working with others that love what they do and care as much as I do about creating good days and moments for our residents.
9. Can you share one tip about Avita residents and the holidays?
   Keep it simple, enjoy being together, don’t be afraid to change traditions up and don’t feel guilty about it.
