- What first made you interested in working in Senior Living?
I’ve always had a deep respect for the elderly and a desire to make a positive difference in their lives. My grandmother played a significant role in my desire to provide compassionate support to seniors who deserve the best care possible. - How long have you been working in Senior Living and what was your first job in this field?
I have worked in senior living for 15 years. My first job was as a Food Service Director where I gained experience in providing excellent meals and experiences to the elderly. - What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
My favorite part of being a chef in senior living is so much more than just cooking. It’s about creating experiences, nurturing well-being, and bringing joy through food. - What is one thing you wish everyone new about being a Culinary Director?
In the culinary world, feedback is crucial for growth. When I receive negative criticism about a dish or menu, I view it as an opportunity to improve. - What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
You make a difference in people’s lives. How many of us can say that we directly make a difference in people’s lives every day? Individuals who work with older adults are doing that by helping seniors stay healthy, age well and maintain a high quality of life. Those who work in eldercare touch the lives of people every day. - What keeps you invested in the field?
Building meaningful relationships with seniors and their families is a significant aspect of working in the senior living industry. You have the chance to connect with individuals who have a wealth of knowledge, life experiences, and stories to share. These relationships can be deeply rewarding and enriching, as you learn from their wisdom and create lasting connections. Making connections with your teammates is also a special part of the life at a senior living community. - What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part about my job is cooking for seniors. It requires more than just skill in the kitchen, it’s about understanding the nutritional needs and preferences of an older population. I have embraced this challenge with creativity and empathy, crafting menus that are not only nutritious but also diverse and full of flavor. From incorporating residents’ favorite childhood dishes to introducing them to new culinary delights, I make sure that every meal is a memorable occasion. - What is the best part about working at Northbridge?
The best part of working for Northbridge is that every day is different, as you interact with numerous residents, their families, and other associates. You get to meet and care for seniors with different needs, personalities, and stories to tell. - What is your favorite meal to cook OR what is a favorite recipe that residents enjoy?
