What first made you interested in working in Senior Living?
I have worked in healthcare my whole career, from pediatrics to seniors. Seniors have always been my favorite.
How long have you been working in Senior Living and what was your first job in this field?
I started out in high school working after school as a home health aide/companion for seniors, so about 41 years. I have worked in different settings, which always included the senior population.
What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
Enjoying their company, learning about their lives, hearing their stories, helping them be happy and comfortable. I love being able to give back to a generation that worked so hard.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Resident Care Director?
It’s so important to love what you do!
What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
No one wants to get old, but we are all going to be there some day so remember to always treat your residents with dignity and respect. Also protect your back!
What keeps you invested in the field?
I love what I do and I know I am making a difference, plus I have never done anything else.
What is your favorite part about your job?
Seeing my residents smiling, laughing and enjoying their lives.
What is the best part about working at Granite Hill Estates or at Northbridge?
Granite Hill Estates is a wonderful, friendly, family like community with great directors and great residents. Northbridge puts residents needs first and treats their employees so well, and show them so much appreciation. They do whatever it takes to make sure their everyone in their buildings, residents and associates, are happy and cared for. Both Granite Hill Estates and Northbridge go above and beyond to make sure that no employee will ever feel unimportant.
What is one thing you want families to know as they’re moving their loved one in?
I would not hesitate to have my mom or dad live here, I would live here! I would have never said that about any other community or facility that I have worked in.
