Executive Director Spotlight – Hollis Graham

Executive Director: Hollis Graham RN, BSN
Community: Bayberry at Emerald Court
How long have you been working in Senior Living and what first made you interested in the field?
As a Registered Nurse with a background in geriatrics and managed care, stepping into senior living felt like a natural evolution. I’ve always believed that true health doesn’t start in a doctor’s office; it starts at home and within a community. Supporting residents through nutritious meals, safe and dignified housing, meaningful programming, and strong relationships. Those are the real building blocks of wellbeing.
What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?
The residents. Always. There’s never a shortage of jokes, smiles, or moments that remind you why this work matters. Some days it’s laughter, some days it’s a quiet conversation, and sometimes it’s simply being there for someone who needs an extra hug.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being an Executive Director?
The residents and our direct care teams are the real bosses. My role is to support them, remove barriers, and make their jobs and lives easier. When they succeed, our entire community thrives.
What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?
Keep it simple: treat every resident the way you would want your own parents or grandparents to be treated: with dignity, compassion, patience, and love. If you lead with that, you’ll never go wrong.
What is the best part about working at Bayberry or at Northbridge?
There is truly never a dull moment. If you’ve ever been at a lively family gathering full of stories, humor, and a little bit of chaos, you’ll understand what it’s like here. We embrace our residents like family… and yes, we get all the personality, fun, and “antics” that come with it. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
What is one tip you have to ensure new residents and families feel welcome and supported from day one?
Be an exceptional listener. Listen to understand, not just to respond. That’s where trust begins.
