How long have you been working in Senior Living and what first made you interested in the field?

I have been working in senior living since I graduated college in 2011. I started as a long-term care social worker in a skilled nursing facility, then moved on to do social work in the community, and eventually returned to skilled nursing as a Director of Social Services before my role here at Skybrooke! I have always been a people person and love helping others, so it’s really such an honor to be assisting our older generation while they navigate living their best years!

What is your favorite part about working in Senior Living?

Working in senior living is such a treat because of the residents themselves. Little known fact, I minored in history in college, so I love hearing all our residents’ stories of when they were younger and seeing past (and current) major world events through their eyes has been really cool. It is also very rewarding being able to help families when they are taking care of aging parents. You never know what to do in the situation until you’re in it, and being there to support residents and families through these changes is fulfilling.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about being a Business Office Director?

One thing I wish people knew about being a Business Office Director is how many hats we wear! No day is the same and we are often working on multiple projects and to dos. We support residents, families, AND our staff -the trifecta!

What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in Senior Living?

If you are interested in working in senior living make sure you enjoy the human connection side of things. While there are things that must get done to make the business side of things run, there is something to be said about being able to connect with the residents and their families as well as your coworkers. As long as you’re fostering those relationships, work won’t really feel like work!

What is the best part about working at Skybrooke or at Northbridge?

The best part about working at Skybrooke is our team!! Our directors, care managers, nurses, chefs, servers, concierge, housekeepers, maintenance team, engagement associates all want to be here every day, and you can really feel that when you’re here. We have built a beautiful and friendly community that is just really fun to work in and be a part of.

What is your favorite way to connect with residents?

My favorite way to connect with the residents these days is to show them photos of my son who was born in June! It’s like he has 105 Grandmas and Grandpas constantly asking for photos or updates. It’s so sweet and leads to them reminiscing about their own grandkids, or great grandkids and is just happy vibes all around!
