Meet Melissa Savage, Business Office Director at Granite Hill Estates, who has been working in senior living for two and a half years. After careers in banking and healthcare, Melissa was drawn to senior living by the opportunity to make a difference in residents’ lives and help them feel at home and appreciated. She makes it a priority to spend time getting to know residents, whether checking in over breakfast or helping plan and host community events. Melissa especially values being part of a supportive team that works together to create meaningful experiences for residents and believes a career in senior living is incredibly rewarding.

How long have you been working in senior living and what first made you interested in the field?
I have been working in senior living for two and a half years now. I worked in banking before this and at a doctors office for about 15 years where I always had contact with seniors.
What is your favorite part about working in senior living?
I get to make a difference in each of the residents’ lives. I love the residents! We are very involved in doing activities with them here and making sure each month the front office team is involved in one. These residents have worked hard their whole lives and deserve to get taken care of and feel appreciated!
What is one thing you wish everyone new about being a Business Office Director?
We have a large role in the community and take on a lot, but for me prioritizing what is important. I make sure to take the time each day to sit with the residents to learn about them and what they like.
What is one piece of advice you would share with someone thinking of starting a career in senior living?
It is so rewarding! I love the fact that I can help the residents, make them feel at home here, and help them feel important.
What is the best part about working at Granite Hill Estates or at Northbridge?
The staff and residents! I am so lucky to work with a great team. I know that I have support and they know I am here to help them as well.
What is your favorite way to connect with residents?
I enjoy going to the Breakfast Room to check in or being involved with the Northbridge 4 All Committee, planning and hosting events for the residents, so they can really enjoy the place they live and feel appreciated.
